Hi everyone!! My name is Bismuth and this is MY page all about HYENAS, my favorite animal in the ENTIRE WORLD. A lot of people think hyenas are gross or scary or "just scavengers" but that is SO not true, they are actually super smart, super social, and the females are basically in charge of everything (girl power!!). 🐾 About Hyenas 🐾

Hyenas belong to the family Hyaenidae, and get this — they are actually more closely related to CATS than dogs, even though they look kinda dog-like!! There are 4 species: the Spotted Hyena, the Striped Hyena, the Brown Hyena, and the weird lil Aardwolf (which mostly just eats termites, lol).

Spotted hyenas live in big groups called clans that can have up to 80 members, and they're ruled by a dominant female matriarch. Their "laugh" isn't actually them being happy — it's a sound they make when they're nervous, excited, or being picked on by another hyena. Scientists have even figured out that other hyenas can tell HOW OLD a hyena is just by listening to its laugh!! Isn't that crazy??
